End-of-service benefit is one of the most common questions from employees and HR teams, and mistakes cause disputes. The rule in the labor law is clear, but fractions of a year and resignation shares need careful calculation.

This sheet applies Article 84 (half a month for each of the first five years, a full month for each year after, with parts of a year counted) and Article 85 (resignation shares), and shows the service in years, months and days.

Who is it for?

  • Private sector employees checking their dues
  • HR and accounting teams
  • Small business owners

What is inside the sheet?

  • Start and end dates and unpaid absence days
  • Service in days, decimal years and years-months-days
  • Award for the first five years, after five years and in total
  • Share due by reason: contract end, resignation, Article 87 cases
  • A table of the resignation rules

How to use it

  1. Enter the start date and the last working day.
  2. Enter unpaid absence days if any.
  3. Enter the last monthly wage used for the calculation.
  4. Pick the reason for leaving and read the benefit.

Formulas used

  • Service years = counted days ÷ 365
  • Full award = (wage ÷ 2 × first 5 years) + (wage × years after five)
  • Resignation: under 2 years nothing, 2–5 one third, 5–10 two thirds, 10 or more full

Worked example from the sheet itself

An employee who started on 1 March 2018 and left on 31 August 2026, last wage 12,000:

  • Service is 8 years and 6 months (8.51 years). Full award = 30,000 for the first five years + 42,115.07 after = 72,115.07.
  • If the reason is resignation, the share is two thirds because service is between 5 and 10 years: 48,076.71.

Tips for best results

  • Check which wage your contract uses (usually basic plus fixed allowances).
  • Keep a copy of the calculation with the final settlement documents.
  • Compare the result with the official HRSD calculator.

When is the full award due despite resignation?

After 10 years or more, or in Article 87 cases such as force majeure, or a female worker ending her contract within six months of marriage or three months of childbirth.

Does it include leave balance?

No, accrued leave pay is calculated separately.
