This sheet is also available in: العربية

Before any pour you need to know how many cubic meters of concrete, how many cement bags and how much sand and aggregate for a site mix, or how many trucks for ready-mix. Getting it wrong means a stopped pour or wasted material.

This sheet puts all element volumes in one table, adds a waste allowance, then calculates materials for the mix ratio you choose, with a summary of volume by element type.

Who is it for?

  • Site engineers and inspectors
  • Contractors doing take-offs and pricing
  • Home owners following their own construction

What is inside the sheet?

  • A table for twenty-five elements: type, count, dimensions and volume
  • Net volume and volume with waste
  • Cement in kg and bags, sand, aggregate, water
  • Ready-mix trucks for your truck size
  • Volume by type: footings, columns, beams, slabs, walls
  • Editable settings: mix ratio, waste, bag weight, truck capacity

How to use it

  1. Enter the element name and pick its type.
  2. Enter the count and dimensions in meters.
  3. Check the settings: 5% waste and a 1:2:4 mix by default.
  4. Read the results: volume, bags, sand, aggregate, water and trucks.

Formulas used

  • Volume = count × length × width × depth
  • Dry volume = volume with waste × 1.54
  • Cement (kg) = dry volume × (cement share ÷ sum of ratios) × 1440
  • Sand or aggregate (m³) = dry volume × (its share ÷ sum of ratios)

Worked example from the sheet itself

The sample has isolated footings, columns, ground beams, an 18 × 14 m slab 200 mm thick and a retaining wall.

  • Net volume is 115.04 m³, or 120.80 m³ with 5% waste.
  • With a 1:2:4 mix you need 766 cement bags (50 kg), 53.15 m³ of sand, 106.30 m³ of aggregate and about 19,134 liters of water, or 16 trucks of 8 m³ for ready-mix.

Tips for best results

  • Order ready-mix slightly above the calculated volume to cover formwork tolerances.
  • For structural ready-mix do not calculate cement yourself; follow the approved mix design.
  • Use one file per pour so it matches the delivery orders.

Frequently asked questions

Why multiply by 1.54?

Dry materials take more space before mixing because of voids, and the volume shrinks after adding water and compacting.

Can I change the mix ratio?

Yes, for example 1:1.5:3 for stronger concrete or 1:3:6 for lean concrete, in the settings.

How do I enter a circular element?

Calculate the cross-section area yourself and enter it as length with width = 1.

Quantities are estimates for planning; structural concrete follows the approved mix design and specification.
